Mark Boucher retired : Eye injury forces Boucher to quit international cricket

Mark Boucher retired: South African wicketkeeper announces

South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher has been decided to retire from international cricket because of an eye injury he suffered during Monday's tour game against Somerset.

Announced by South African captain Graeme Smith on Tuesday, Boucher said "the severity of the injury he suffered in a tour game against Somerset had ended his test career".

Boucher, who no longer plays one day international cricket and Test Matches, would have reached 150 test appearances in the series against England that was also expected to be his farewell tour.

Boucher continued a ruptured left eyeball when he was struck by a bail standing up to the stumps to legspinner Imran Tahir on Monday.

The 35-year-old required three hours of surgery in Taunton on Monday night and, after being released on Tuesday morning, it was initially confirmed he would leave the tour.

He underwent surgery for nearly three hours to repair the damage, but Cricket South Africa said the long-term projection for Boucher was "undecided."
